1. Hiking

Thornton Lakes

September 7th. Went to Lower and upper Thornton Lakes. Upper had snow, and no fish. Lower had tons of fish at the outlet and around the south side.

To get to Upper, cross outlet (this can be harder earlier in season when logs are covered by water), go by campsites, turn left at sign to outhouse on a rough trail. Follow up and work your way up the ridge above the middle lake, and when you see the lower, work your way down on rocks and heather (careful walking). Can also follow this ridge all the way around towards Thornton Peak. Bring Ice Ax ~ there was a small snowfield we could see on Thornton Peak. There were a few (or at least one?) campsites above upper lake, exposed, didn't look like water real close by, nice views.
