This is where we were. We hiked up to near the Black Tusk Meadows, camped for two nights, and explored and skied during the day. We made it over to Gentian Peak on the map.
This is all snow covered!
A little more of the Green Trails map. Some of these peaks are in the scenery in the pictures.
Here we are at the start of the trail with our very heavy packs. Scott wore his ski boots, but I had light hikers on, and carried everything. I had about 3 beers, I think, so it was very very heavy!
Blue Grouse. We heard a lot of these guys, 'whoomping' all over. They make a very distinctive sound, like 'whomping'! There was one near our camp, and he whomped all night.
View from our campsite. A bit of a hike to get in there!
Another view from the campsite. The big snowy mountain that looks like a big cloud is Glacier Pikes. Am I right Scott??
Oh, and the Lake is Lake Garibaldi!
At very most right is 'The Table'. The name fits!
You can see 'The Table', and also Mt. Price to the right of it, and behind all this is the mighty Mt. Garibaldi.
We decided to skin up for an after dinner ski on the first night. Martina heading up.
Phil heading up.
Phil, with Gentian behind him?
Phil with the Tantalus Range behind him.
The sunset is nice. But it is starting to get cold...and the snow icy.
Great camera technique.
We reach the top.
It's already 9PM!!
We're taking pictures of the sunset and the Black Tusk which we can now see.
Me and Lake Garibaldi.
Here is 'The Table', and Mt. Price? Wait, is Mt.Price the snowy one? It's weird, because my green trails map shows The Table as being taller than Mt.Price. It doesn't seem like it?
Me and Lake Garibaldi behind.
Me and the Tantalus Range. Rugged steep over there!
The Black Tusk is just visible over the next ridge.
Back to camp, after an icy ski down!
Enjoying the moon scenery.
You can just see Mt. Garibaldi peeking behind.
Glacier Pikes is so snowy!
Our campsite. It was very very cold at night. I wore long underwear pants, pants, top, synthetic vest, synthetic jacket, hat, balaclava, gloves, and I was still freezing and shivering in my 20 degree bag.
The day starts out nice the next day, sunny, and the snow is starting to soften up. We're heading out on our ski tour for the day.
I think this is Gentian??
Some old avalanche stuff going on.
Black Tusk Lake?
Burnt trees on the left. I think this is Helm Lake?
You can see Whistler Mtn Ski Resort way in the distance.
Ski touring around goggling at the views.
This lake is on the map, but not named. I like it. It's pretty.
We skied around the lake.
The cornice above has started to give way a little bit. (not while we were there!).
Phil and the cornice.
Traversing around the lake.
